How to play
How do you play HazerFazer?
HazerFazer (Hazer Fazer, or حزر فزر in Arabic) is an Arabic trivia game made in Jordan: a Jeopardy-style team quiz and party game for two teams of family or friends, played together on one screen — a smart TV, a laptop or a tablet. It is a browser game at hazerfazer.com, with nothing to download.
This is the game step by step: what you need, how the board is built, who answers, and how the points are counted.
What do you need?
- One screen in landscape with a browser: a smart TV, a laptop or a tablet.
- Two teams, with any number of players in each.
- One account for the whole game night — nobody else needs one.
- No phones, except for charades: the actor scans a code on the screen to read what to act out.
Before you start
- Pick 6 categories out of more than 250, to suit the room.
- Name the two teams and split the room between them.
- Choose the power-ups: each team takes up to 3 to play at the right moment, or you play without them.
- Set the clock: 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds, 120 seconds, or no clock. The default is 60 seconds.
- Surprises (optional): Three hidden tiles: a treasure that doubles the points, and a bomb that takes them.
The board
Every game, you pick 6 categories out of more than 250, and they make a board of 36 questions: in each category, two worth 200 points, two worth 400 and two worth 600. The harder the question, the more it is worth. Every game is dealt from questions you haven't played, so the same question never comes back however often you pick a category — except in the free game, which comes from a fixed trial set, the same for every new account.
Turns and the clock
The wheel picks the team that starts. The team on turn picks a tile, its question opens on the screen, and they have the full time to answer. If they get it wrong or run out of time, the other team has half the time to steal it. After every question the turn passes to the other team, whatever happened.
Scoring
There is no referee: the room decides. Once the answer is shown, you tap the team that got it right — or “nobody” — and the screen keeps the score. When all 36 tiles are played, the team with the most points wins.
Question types
Not every question is text to read:
- Text questions
- Pictures (logos, flags, film and game posters)
- Audio clips and songs
- Video clips
- Ordering (put events or numbers in order)
- Charades and drawing
Mini-games between the questions: for your ears, your memory, the map and your acting.
- Songs — Half a second of the song, and every extra second costs you 100 points.
- Charades — The actor scans the code, and only their phone knows what to act out.
- Blind stopwatch — Stop the clock on the target second, after the digits vanish.
- Where on the map? — Drop your pin, and the closest to the place takes the points.
- True size — Scale the shape until it is its real size next to something you know.
- The duck's path — The arrows show for a few seconds, then vanish. Where will the duck stop?
- Laser maze — The mirrors flash for a moment. Where will the beam come out?
- Closest wins — One number per team, and the closest to the answer wins.
English or Arabic
The screens and the questions come in English and Arabic: each question card switches between the two, so a room where some prefer English and some Arabic can play the same board.
Power-ups
Cards that turn a round. Each team picks up to 3 before the game and plays each one once. Seen Jeem players call them lifelines, but some of HazerFazer's are for attacking, not helping:
- The Setup — Hand them your question — if they get it wrong, they lose its points.
- Take a Nap — Their best player sits this one out — the question is played without them.
- Double Up — Play it before the question, and every point counts twice.
- The Snatch — Snatch the other team's question and answer it yourselves.
- The Raid — Answer it right, and the same points come off their score.
- The Swap — Don't like the question? Swap it for another.
- Two Shots — Try two answers instead of one — one right answer is enough.
If you stop halfway
The game is saved with its score and tiles. You find it on Home and finish it whenever you like, without using another credit.
